Review:

First, I would like to thank the author for providing me with a review copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Orphans Aelfric and Aliwyn are thrown together when Aelfric, hiding from his master, discovers Aliwyn with stolen clothes. Giving Aliwyn some of the few coins he has for her silence, she helps him disguise himself. Aliwyn is a beggar who is trying to care for a toddler she rescued, but the rash on her skin and her tendency to bleed easily mark her as cursed. Aelfric’s plans to escape to Scotland are complicated when he grows to care for Aliwyn and Godwin. As Aliwyn’s condition worsens and their money dwindles, how will they get to safety?

The Thief’s Keeper is a full-length prequel in the Enemy’s Keeper historical fantasy series by Kyrie Wang. A reimagining of history, The Thief’s Keeper brings civilizations together on English soil, including Normans, Celts, and Norsemen in AD 1070. Kyrie Wang’s world-building shines, demonstrating a high level of research without losing the story to excessive detail. With each challenge the teenagers face, their bond strengthens. The book touches on poverty, intolerance, and prejudice while maintaining themes of hope, loyalty, and love.

The narrators, Michael Hajiantonis and Kiera Rhodes, are both versatile, performing different accents flawlessly. Kiera Rhodes’s voice for Aliwyn’s dialogue was a bit more childlike than I would have imagined, but otherwise, both narrators gave a fantastic performance, and the sound production was excellent.

The Thief’s Keeper builds a strong foundation for the Enemy’s Keeper series, full of adventure and triumph, and I am looking forward to reading Healer’s Blade.

Author Bio:

Hailing from the unpredictable snowstorms of Quebec, Canada, I'm a medical mystery detective (fancy words for "pathologist, MD") by day and a dreamweaver of historical fantasy by night. Pencil on paper makes me cry and laugh, and every book I write is living another life!

I have a PASSION for crafting stories that explore the humanity common to us all. Where people find their authentic selves, goodness prevails, and the forgotten and voiceless rise as heroes.

Somewhere between sleuthing with my microscope and crafting hamster toys with my girl, I sit down and type. You'd never catch me without (quality dark) chocolate in my bag and I would bike in Canadian January to a froyo store.

Just ask my best friend of 11 years- she was the cashier!
