Series: The Whitmore Legacy, Book 1

Review:

I would like to thank the author and Luna Literary PR for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Sadly, the book just was not for me.

The Whitmore estate hosts exclusive parties, but it also is the site of deaths and disappearances. Valeria’s childhood friend and first love, Camila, was adopted by the Whitmores but soon vanished. Valeria is determined to uncover what happened, even if she must put her life at risk by entering the Whitmore mansion and playing a dangerous game of hide and seek. However, she cannot ignore the allure of the mysterious woman she encounters, adding confusion and desire to her panic.

The first 90% of the book was fantastic. I was prepared to rate it 4.5 stars, possibly even 5. The sordid horror house vibes were exciting. The spicy scenes were tantalizing, and the early character development was compelling.

Unfortunately, the ending was so rushed, rather unbelievable, and left too many loose ends. It’s as though once the smut started, the plot was thrown to the wayside. What happened to Isabel? What about the adopted brothers? There was no resolution to these questions–just a haphazard guess as to where they might be. There was not much explanation about what was going on in the house, which I had been so excited to learn. There was no mention of what happened after the climactic ending, just more smut. It didn’t end on a cliffhanger; it just felt incomplete.

This is the first book in a series, so maybe the answers will be given in a later book, but couldn’t there have been some resolution to the conflicts in this book aside from what became of Camila? Or some hint that the answers will come later? Hopefully, the next book in the series will provide some clarity.

Publisher's Synopsis:

Welcome to Latibulum Noctis…

At the Whitmore estate, the infamous party is more than just an invitation—it’s a test of fate.

The guests gather to play a game of hide and seek, where luck and misfortune intertwine in every shadow. When the clock strikes midnight, the true nature of Latibulum Noctis reveals itself.

Consumed with a need for answers, Valeria’s mission is clear: uncover the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of her beloved, who vanished many years ago, leaving behind nothing but haunting memories of their past.

As the night deepens, an enigmatic stranger that Valeria had once met on Halloween, emerges from the shadows, ensnaring her in a web of deceit and desire.

Valeria steps into the unknown, where the boundary between love and madness blurs, and she realizes that every heartbeat could be her last.
